Our Responsibilities
Like most Government organizations Sodbury Town Council has several Committees with different responsibilities. Details of each Committee are below.
Markets Committe
Responsibilites include CCTV, The Pitchings, Town Centre and Wickwar Road Car Park. The Markets Committe is also responsible for the twice yearly Mop Fair and the twice Monthly Farmers Market. Licences and Road Closures are issued to organizations as necessary.
Environment & Leisure Committee
This committee has responsibility for numerous areas such as Trees, bushes and grass cutting. They ensure the paths are kept clear and maintain the attractive hanging basket displays to be found in Chipping Sodbury in the summer months. They also have responsibility for the Litter/dog bins, bus shelters and public seating in the various parks and childrens playgrounds ensuring they are kept clean and tidy.
Finance & General Purposes Committee Responsibilites are for all expenditure relating to the Council, from the payment of day to day bills to the monitoring of Budgets.
Working Groups
The Council has many smaller working groups which meet as required but do not have any decision making powers.
The working groups at present are: Playscheme, Rememberance Day, Staffing, Newsletter and Council Procedures. We currently have working groups involved with the development of an accessible public convenience and details of the proposed Barnhill development. All working groups report back to the appropriate committee or Full Council.
